«Statsraad Lehmkuhl»; The fastest sail training vessel in the world.

Even though «Statsraad Lehmkuhl» did not win any of the race legs in the 2008 Tall Ships’ Races, the vessel has been awarded The Boston Teapot Trophy as the fastest sail training vessel in the world during the period 1st October 2007 – 30th September 2008.

The Boston Teapot Trophy is an international award given to the sail training vessel that covers the greatest distance under sails within a 124 hour (5 days and 4 hours) period.

In November 2007, when «Statsraad Lehmkuhl» was on a voyage from Baltimore to Belfast with cadets from The Norwegian Naval Academy, the ship covered a distance of 1 118 nautical miles within a 124 hour period.  This gives an average speed over the entire period of 9,02 knots.  The longest distance sailed during a 4 hour period was 60 nautical miles, and the highest recorded speed was 18 knots over a short period of time.

The price was awarded during the Sail Training International annual conference of 2008, which was held in Halifax in November of 2008.
